Intro & New Features
For 2022, Bauer introduces the new M4 hockey skate: a mid-line variation in their transition from the Supreme S-series to the M-series of skates. This skate includes many performance-enhancing technologies for a variety of players at a more affordable price point. Tech of note includes the 3D-Lasted Flex Composite quarter package, the Aerofoam ankle padding, the Digi Comp outsole, and the Form Fit footbed.
Skate Fit & Stiffness Profile
The Supreme M4 skates come in Bauer’s Fits 1, 2, and 3, which is a relatively new concept that debuted in 2020. This was a great innovation, considering how the three lines, Vapor, Supreme, and Nexus, all historically had their own fits, despite performing differently. Now, those with narrower feet for example can enjoy the powerful stride enhancements that come with the Supreme line. Below is how the Bauer Fit System compares to previous years’ Bauer Skates:
- Fit 1 = Low Volume, Narrow width (closest aligned to the Vapor fit profile)
- Fit 2 = Medium Volume, Medium Width (closest aligned to the Supreme fit profile)
- Fit 3 = High Volume, Wide Width (closest aligned to the Nexus fit profile)
Boot Construction & Stiffness Profile
The Supreme line puts a large emphasis on powerful skate stride, which is where the integration of the 3D-Lasted Flex Composite quarter package comes in. The Flex Comp construction keeps that stiffness you need to support your full stride while also keeping the skate lightweight and thermoformable. It’s not so stiff that it makes the skate difficult to break in, however. Bauer has decreased the concentration of reinforcement fibres in the boot, making the skates easier to flex and skate in for developing players.
Liner & Internal Padding
For the M4, Bauer used a hydrophobic microfibre liner along the inside to wick away moisture and repel odour while you play. Including this kind of liner ensures that you stay comfortable in your skates all game long without the potential distraction of a wet boot. The skates also use Aerofoam Technology in the ankle padding, which is designed a bit thicker than conventional foam but is more form-fitting and thermoformable.
Toe Cap
The M4 skate uses a standard toe cap to keep the construction simple and to accommodate a wider variety of foot shapes and sizes.
Tongue
The tongue is made of an updated 48oz pro stock felt material with an injected metatarsal guard. This combination of comfort and protection is designed to form fit around and over the metatarsus area for extra coverage, and the thick felt coupled with the tough exterior help shield the front ankle area of your foot from harm while you play.
Insoles
The skates use a Form Fit footbed complete with memory foam for premium comfort on the landing.
Steel Runner, Holder & Blade Profile
To hold the blade in place, the Supreme M4 skate uses Tuuk Lightspeed Edge, which is the same as it was in the previous highest-end Supreme Ultrasonic skates. For steel, the M4 uses an LS runner, which better matches the aftermarket geometry; this means you will be able to find the same steel sold separately in case you need an extra pair.
Graphics
Keeping to the classic theme of the Supreme line, the M4 is mainly coloured black with yellow, cybernetic graphics and accents. “M4” and the new Bauer logo are also on display above the ankles and heel.
